As founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mays & Company Real Estate Development LLC for more than 20 years, Erik specializes in development of Health Care and Retail Build to Suit Projects. The firm’s real estate portfolio comprises more than 200 buildings spanning across 30 states. These projects total more than two million square feet of commercial space valued at $700+ million. Clients include Fedex Kinkos, Tractor Supply, Bridgestone Firestone, CVS Pharmacy, Office Depot, Adeptus Health & Dignity Health, to name a few. With every project, Erik brings to bear the breadth and depth of his industry expertise. He excels at recognizing the unique requirements of each project and strategizes with clients to exceed their expectations on time and under budget.
Prior to founding Mays & Company, Erik served as Chief Development Officer of the Southwest Region for Boston Market where he was responsible for building 80 freestanding restaurants in only four years. Erik has also served as Vice President of Miller Commercial, a premier real estate brokerage firm specializing in retail tenant representation.
Erik received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist University. He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Texas and ICSC member. Erik served on the board, and is currently a member, of the Texas Irish Foundation, a charitable fundraising organization whose primary beneficiaries, among others, include Children’s Health System, Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Genesis Women’s Shelter.
Mike most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer of Adeptus Health. Mike joined Adeptus Health in 2012 to accelerate growth in the company’s portfolio of facilities. During his tenure, Mike assembled and led the team that developed Adeptus Health’s innovative market analytics and planning tools and established the infrastructure of vendors, processes, and people that resulted in Adeptus Health’s expansion from just 13 emergency room facilities in Texas to more than 100 emergency room facilities and 6 acute care hospitals across 4 states in just 4 years.
In addition to Mike’s healthcare experience, Mike has nearly twenty-five years of real estate development experience in the retail sector. Mike has been responsible for several hundred new store openings and has held a number of executive leadership roles including Senior Vice President of Store Development for Hollywood/Movie Gallery, Chief Development Officer for Eastern Mountain Sports and Vice President of Domestic Real Estate for Blockbuster. His responsibilities have included market strategy and planning, new store site selection and development, construction management, facilities management, asset management, lease administration and franchising.
Mike received a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Dallas. He is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas and an ICSC member.
Joe brings extensive experience successfully developing programmatic solutions that grow both market share and margins for hospitals, health systems, and other providers with more than 30 years on the leading edge of healthcare innovation in urban, suburban, rural, and international markets.
Most recently, Joe served as Senior Vice President of Planning, Analytics & Business Development for Erlanger Health System, the 7th largest public health system in the United States and the fastest growing health system in the State of Tennessee. While at Erlanger, he was Lead Executive for the Erlanger Innovation Center, differentiating Erlanger clinically from other providers.
Prior to Erlanger, Joe had similar responsibilities at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, American Healthcare Management, and Humana, accumulating extensive planning, reimbursement, and regulatory expertise while securing more than 200 certificates of need across 22 states for the development and operation of academic medical centers, suburban and rural hospitals, various facility expansions, outpatient and ambulatory centers, bundled and unbundled services, critical access hospitals, federally qualified health centers, free-standing and satellite emergency departments, medical office buildings, urgent care centers, and more.
Joe earned his BS in Business from the University of Florida and his MHA in hospital administration from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He has served on and/or chaired various for-profit and not-for-profit boards, has been an active member/fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), earning accolades from the ACHE, the Tennessee Hospital Association, and others, and has mentored students, interns, residents and startup companies.
Bill Arsenault has over 30 years of commercial real estate development experience, focusing on development of retail and medical projects over the last 10 years. In his early career, Bill functioned as both architect and contractor on design-build projects. Bill’s projects included business and industrial parks, retail shopping centers, restaurants, and even a resort in Hawaii. Between 2006 and 2015, Bill developed more than 1.5 million square feet of shopping center space in Texas and Oklahoma.
During his tenure at Mays & Company, Bill has developed twelve satellite emergency departments in the Phoenix market. Bill’s responsibilities included property acquisition, entitlements, scheduling, budgeting, permitting, consultant coordination, and contractor selection, and management of general contractors.
Bill Arsenault received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Idaho and is a licensed architect in the State of Washington.
Basil most recently served as Director of Architecture & Construction for Adeptus Health. During his tenure, Basil was responsible for all aspects of project development, including budgeting, space and equipment planning, design, and construction on more than 100 satellite emergency departments and 6 acute care hospitals in just 4 years.
Basil has more than 30 years of commercial construction experience in the healthcare, retail, and restaurant sectors across several states. Basil previously served as Director of Construction developing Sonic Drive-Ins, Bombay Company stores, and EZ Corp. Basil also served as a construction manager during peak years of growth at Blockbuster.
Basil received his Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from the Texas A & M University School of Architecture.
Caren has over 25 years of experience in construction accounting. Caren started her professional career helping her father with his construction company. While attending college, Caren was invited to intern with a CPA firm that had a number of construction firms as clients. This experience resulted in Caren’s pursuit of a career in construction accounting.
Since Caren’s tenure at Mays & Company, Caren has been in charge of all accounting and human resource functions, as well as the coordination of all pay applications, contract change orders, and project close-outs.

Mike and Erik recognized an emerging trend as retail, healthcare, and consumerism converged. They viewed the “retailization” of healthcare as an opportunity to capitalize on their extensive retail experience and apply their development expertise to the healthcare sector. Since that time, our team members have developed more than 100 healthcare projects including “smart-sized” hospitals, satellite emergency departments, and community hospitals, totaling more than 1.2 million square feet of space and over $1 Billion in market value.
